Look and Feel Your Best for the Holidays!

Well, it's getting to be that exciting time of year again.  Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are just around the corner, which means getting together with family and friends!  For some, this may also mean having time off work or an opportunity to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle for some "me" time-which is equally important in our lives.  This important "me" time allows us reset mentally and physically, so we can be at our best for both ourselves and for those around us.  The holidays are a great time to start looking and feeling your best and to go into the New Year with confidence!

Let's face it, in today's busy everyday life, we don't always have the luxury or time to get up at dawn to go for a run, or go to the gym after work to squeeze in an evening yoga session.  For some, no matter how hard one may workout or eat right there are still some places on your body that just refuse to conform, like the stubborn area beneath your chin or those awful love handles!  These annoying problem areas can make one feel very uncomfortable both physically and socially.  The good news- a simple, quick, and safe procedure that can instantly transform your appearance.  What is it you ask?  Liposuction.  This is an operation that removes fat from many different sites on the human body. Areas affected can range from the abdomen, thighs, and buttock, to the neck, backs of the arms and elsewhere.  To learn more about this procedure call Conkright Aesthetic's today at 812.842-0240 and schedule your complementary consultation!  Make sure you get your "me" time in this Holiday Season!

"Will the Real Face Lift Please Stand Up"

Life Style lifts are name-branded facial “mini” lifts done by doctors who,"sign up” with the “Lifestyle Lift” national marketing campaign to supplement their income. When you go to one of their “centers” for a consultation, you are seen by a “care consultant” who decides if you are a candidate. You then pay several thousand dollars for an often mediocre “short incision” one operation-fit-all pseudo-face-lift by a doctor who you do not meet until the day of your procedure.

With a “Lifestyle lift” you still have incisions, scars, and healing; what you don’t have is a personalized analysis by an experienced plastic surgeon that performs many “complete” face-lifts and FYI, the longer incisions for a SMAS face-lift are hidden in the hair and behind the ear. Trying to do quality work through just part of an incision that is visible anyway (in front of the ear) seems so unnecessary (? foolish) and limits proper safe visibility for the sake of a “marketing point”.

Are you sure of the doctor’s training, credentials, and experience? Is the surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, or some other board that has nothing to do with plastic surgery? (The “American Board of Cosmetic Surgery” is NOT an American Board Medical Specialties member board!) Board certified plastic surgeons who are members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons must adhere to a specific code of ethics. This code dictates that their members, or any of their affiliated health care providers, must not use or participate in the use of any form of public or private communication containing a false, fraudulent, deceptive or misleading statements or claim which: Is intended or is likely to create false or unjustified expectations of favorable results, or appeals primarily to a layperson’s fears, anxieties, or emotional vulnerabilities.

Recently the state of New York issued a 300,000.00 fine to a face-lift company for posting fake positive reviews of itself: Internal emails discovered in the investigation show specific marching orders to engage in this illegal activity: “Friday is going to be a slow day- I need you to devote the day to doing more postings on the web as a satisfied client.” Lifestyle Lift also created stand-alone websites and blogs made to appear as if they were created by independent, satisfied customers.

Bottom line: ANY kind of “mini” lift gives even MORE “mini” results and the cost savings evaporate when you need a “real” face-lift in a few short years, or even corrective surgery for improperly performed procedures. Realize in this economy there will always be one or more surgeons who are more than happy to give you exactly what you ask for…even if it is not really the best or the most appropriate procedure. Don’t decide on your own that any kind of “mini” lift Lifestyle or otherwise is for you. What is best for you?? Cost is certainly important but should not be the deciding factor. You only have one face and the whole world sees it. Consequently you should do the best research you can to get the most complete and natural looking results. Confirm experience, reputation and board certification of your physician! Remember if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Winter Skin Care Tips

Winter is one of those times where your skin needs special attention because it can dry out and start cracking. If you already have dry skin or you are beginning to spot the signs of aging, you probably need to be even more cautious of your skin during winter. To hone in on this dilemma, it is important to pick up some effective winter skin care habits.

1. Shorter Showers: A hot steamy shower sounds like the perfect task when it’s cold, but not for your skin. Keep the water temperature in the mid ranges because a hot shower will take away moisture from your skin. The ideal amount of time is anywhere from 5-10 minutes.

2. Moisturize and Moisturize: Moisturize your body right after you shower to lock in all that moisture. If your skin is really dry, use creams rather than moisturizers as they hold less water.  Also, be sure to use sunscreen in the winter.  It's not just the summer months you have to worry about.  The wintertime is still a time when your skin can be harmed by the suns rays.

3. Exfoliate: When skin gets dry in the winter, it means you have a lot of dead skin. Exfoliate with a gentle scrub to replenish your skin. Products with micro-beads are some of the best choices. This process will also reduce and prevent wrinkles, decrease the size of pores, and keep your skin tissue healthy.  When it's cold, you lose blood flow to the skin and the result is a dry, dull tone. Facial treatments can increase circulation and rejuvenate a healthy glow.  Skin care procedures such as Microdermabrassions may be just what you need to get your skin glowing again!

4. Lips: We all know that lips get chapped, can crack, and even bleed during the winter. Protect your lips by using chap-stick or lipstick for moisture.

5. Bundle Up: Your body is vulnerable to the elements when it’s cold. By wearing gloves and socks, you will help your hands and feet retain their moisture, especially after you lather them with moisturizer. This will also help prevent eczema or control it and your nails and cracked cuticles will also benefit from this.

Some other helpful tips:
- Drink plenty of water. Even when there's a chill in the air and thirst isn't overwhelming, water consumption needs to be high to combat the dry air.
- Avoid products with a high percentage of synthetic ingredients (propylene glycol, petroleum), chemical detergents (sodium laurel sulfates), and artificial colors and fragrances.
- Use quality skin care products suited to your skin type.
- Incorporate nutritional supplements into your skin health regimen, such as essential fatty acids, zinc, magnesium, vitamin A, and B vitamins.

When your skin is exposed to wind and a cold breeze, it starts to lose its moisture. Don’t let your skin experience the dreadful problem of dryness by using some of these winter skin care tips. Call Conkright Aesthetics today  at 812.842.0240 to learn more about hydrating products and circulation-enhancing treatments to ease the long, dry months of winter. After all, spring will be here before we know it!
