There are certain hairstyles that we ALL wish we could take back (80s perm anyone?). But, below is a list put together by Lucky Magazine of 5 hair tips to always and forever live by:
1)Â Blow-dry side to side rather than (or in addition to) upside down for volume
2)Â Your hair will be shinier if your final rinse is with cold water
3) A ton of water is necessary when shampooing your hair. Otherwise shampoo neither gets in or out of hair well, leaving it duller than dull
4)Â Braids are sexy, cute and the only acceptable form of pigtail
5)Â Beachy waves are always sexy
Keep these things in mind the next time you are getting ready for a night out. Beautiful, sexy hair is never a bad thing.

With so many beverage choices to choose from today, it is hard to determine whether or not you are getting enough fluids to satisfy your body. It is especially important to stay hydrated during the heat of the summer which we are experiencing in full force right now. Not only that, but getting your daily allotment of fluids can help you feel and even look better. Below are some truths behind the “rules” of hydration:
- You don’t really need eight glasses of water each day. It is actually recommended that women have about 11 1/2 cups and men have 15 1/2 cups of fluid daily. But, about 20% of this will come from the food you eat.
- Drinking coffee does NOT make you dehydrated. So eight ounces of coffee is still eight ounces of fluid, and every ounce counts.
- Water alone is not a weight loss aid. What it can do, however, is ensure you are not mistaking thirst for hunger. Having a zero calorie beverage with your meal can help slow down your food intake.
- Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. It is very important to sip on fluids throughout the day so that you do not suffer from dehydration.
- You can drink too much water. Our kidneys can process no more than 1 liter per hour, so do not drink too much at once.
- You don’t need a sports drink every time you exercise. If you are working out intensely and sweating profusely, than a sports drink can come in handy. Otherwise your body probably already has all the carbs and electrolytes it needs.
- Your body does NOT have to work harder to absorb cold water. Therefore cold water is no better for you than warm water, but it does taste better so go ahead and add the ice.
- All plain bottle water is basically the same. The only difference is the source from which it is taken. Some water may come from natural springs, others are imported, etc.

I am back to follow up my previous post about sunless tanning products. Through research and my own personal use, I have collected my top 5 choices for sunless tanning products:
1) Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel. This product can be purchased at most department stores and at beauty supply stores such as Sephora. iT is easy to apply and will give you that natural tan you are searching for.
2) Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer. This product I have personally used and absolutely love! It will moisturize your skin while gradually developing a tan. The color is maintained with continuous use. It is available at most drugstores
3) L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Pro Perfect Self Tanning Mist. This spray tan can be done in the comfort of your own home and takes just seconds to dry while developing your tan over the next few hours! However, it does take practice to get it just right.
4) Tan Towel Self-Tan Towelettes. Tan Towelettes are perfect for touching up any spots that you may have missed with your tanning mist or loition. It is not recommeded to use over the entire body because it will tend to streak and leave dark spots. But this product is an excellent one to keep in your bathroom cabinet for an emergency touch up session!
5) Mystic Tan. If you would much rather have a professional apply your tan, then I would highly recommend choosing salon that uses the Mystic Tan UV-Free Spray on Tanning. It is more expensive in the long run than any of the above products but will by far give you the best result. Mystic Tan can be found in tanning salons.

It is summertime and I think what a lot of us look forward to in the summertime is the SUN and a nice golden tan. As many of us know, the sun and it’s rays can be very harmful to our skin and to our health. So the next best option? A sunless tan! Sunless tanning has come a long way from when it was first introduced and for those of you who are currently using a sunless tanner, I have some helpful tips:
- Do not shave your legs for several hours before applying.
- Wear a snug, dark-colored outfit such as a black bathing suit while applying sunless tanners. Wearing the same thing every time will give you the best results.
- Use a sponge paintbrush, available at any hardware store, to apply self tanner to your back. Look for one that is from two to three inches in size. Wash before use and let it air dry. The brushes with wooden handles are better, as the plastic handles can scratch skin.
- If you are new to sunless tanning products, don’t use sprays. They are difficult [impossible?] to apply evenly. What helps: spray the stuff onto your sponge paintbrush and apply it that way.
- Wash your hands at least every five minutes while applying and also clean the palms of your hands afterwards with Baby Wipes, Wet Ones, Quickies, and similar products.
- Or wear gloves! Get the inexpensive medical supply kind which come in a box. You should still wash your hands afterwards as a precaution as some sunless tanner may have seeped underneath.
- Five to ten minutes after applying a sunless tanner, rub areas such as elbows and knees with a little lotion to lighten the effect, rub lotion around wrists and backs of hands to blend with arms, and rub lotion around ankles and tops of feet to blend with legs.
- You can apply sunless tanners to your armpits. Most people don’t have tanned armpits, but avoiding the area with realistic results takes skill. You can lightly wipe the area five minutes later with a damp washcloth to lighten.
- Your belly button could darken too much. Rub it with a cotton swab dipped in lotion after you apply the sunless tanning lotion. If you notice it is too dark the next day, rub it with a cotton swab dipped in liquid eye make up remover.
- To alleviate the sunless tanner smell problem, apply a lightly scented or non-scented sunless tanner, then spray on [lightly, please!] your favorite perfume one hour later.
- If the sunless tanning lotion has left you feeling sticky, apply baby powder or bath powder to your skin thirty minutes to an hour after applying the sunless tanner. Don’t rub it in! Use a large body powder puff to apply. Look for a powder that is corn starch based as it can be safely used all over.
- After your sunless tan has developed [it will take at least three hours], hydrogen peroxide can be used to lighten dark spots on your palms if you make a mistake. Apply the hydrogen peroxide with a Q-Tip or cotton ball, and be sure to rinse the hydrogen peroxide off your skin afterwards. ver. Lesson: concentrate on preventing orange palms, because there really isn’t a cure [except time].
- Apply moisturizer to your “tan” every day.
If you have never used a sunless tanner before I hope these tips will make you feel more comfortable in using one. The safest tan to achieve each summer is with a sunless tanner, and using a sunless tanner can keep you tan year-round! I’ll be back next week with my top sunless tanning product choices.
