Non-Surgical

Microdermabrasion - DERMAGLOW®

Age, sun, diet and the environment are a few factors that lead to skin deterioration on the face and other parts of the body. Now with Dermaglow® Microdermabrasion particle skin exfoliation technology, there is a safe and gentle way to help rejuvenate, smooth and repair your skin. This form of Microdermabrasion has been adopted as the treatment of choice in the United States, making it the most requested non-surgical procedure.

Procedure:

Dermaglow® Microdermabrasion delivers a controlled stream of micro crystals over the skin through a special hand piece. By gently polishing the skin and removing dead skin cells, oils and other buildup, it is possible to improve many skin conditions and the imperfections that lead to premature aging.

Procedure Length:

  • 1 hour

Results:

Most people see dramatic results after one DERMAGLOW® Microdermabrasion treatment. However, for optimal results, Dr. Conkright’s professional staff may recommend a series for your specific needs that will include a designated number of treatments and the time intervals between each treatment.

The Dermaglow® Microdermabrasion procedure has been shown to be safe and effective for the cosmetic reduction of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Acne/Acne scars
  • Excess oils
  • Blackheads/Whiteheads
  • Pore size
  • Superficial age spots

Refinity™

A peel so gentle, all your notice are the results! The Refinity Skin Solutions peel allows you to experience the benefits of medical strength alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) without the high irritation (stinging, burning, and itching) commonly associated with this type of product.  The Refinity peel helps produce improvements in skin color, tone, and texture, as well as a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  With the Refinity peel, you may achieve the skin-enhancing benefits of a high performance peel at your first treatment—even if you have sensitive skin.

Procedure:

A Refinity peel is usually performed in a medical office, and lasts about 15 to 30 minutes.  Immediately after the treatment you should be able to resume your normal activities.

Procedure Length:

  • 30 minutes

Risks/Side Effects:

Complications with AHA products are rare.  Be sure to provide your medical skin care professional with a full medical history at your initial consultation.  Carefully follow any instructions provided to you, and report any persistent redness, irritation, or discomfort immediately.

Results:

After a peel, most patients report that their skin feels softer and smoother, and that they’re able to resume their normal activities immediately.  Any slight redness that may occur can be covered with makeup.  Some patients may experience slight skin flaking in the few days that follow the peel, but it is not necessary to see skin flaking for your peel to be effective.  The Refinity Peel can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while visibly improving your skin’s color, tone and texture.  Even after your first peel, you may have smoother, softer skin, and see subtle, yet noticeable, differences in your appearance.

Obagi Blue Peel®

The Obagi Blue Peel® is an in-office procedure designed to significantly improve the appearance and health of your skin. Using a low concentration of the chemical trichloroacetic acid (TCA) mixed with a special blue base to slow penetration, the Obagi Blue Peel® allows your medical professional to monitor the appropriate depth to effectively remove the thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin from the face. These dead skin cells are replaced by healthier ones, allowing the skin’s own clarity and tightness to resurface. The process begins with the Obagi® skincare system that best suits your skincare needs and ends with the Obagi Blue Peel® to achieve the ultimate results.

Procedure:

The Obagi Blue Peel® is a quick, relatively simply and highly tolerable procedure that in most cases does not require sedation. Application of the Obagi Blue Peel® takes about 20 minutes, depending on the number of coats your healthcare professional has determined are necessary to achieve your goals. You will experience a burning sensation that lasts two to three minutes (your medical professional will use an electric fan to minimize this sensation). Immediately after the procedure, a bluish tint remains on your skin, which will usually wash off in 12 to 24 hours.

Procedure Length:

  • 20-45 minutes

Risks/Side Effects:

After the procedure, you will experience light swelling, and your skin will begin to peel within 2 to 3 days. This peeling will continue over the next several days and should be healed in an average of 7 to 10 days. This peeling should not disrupt your regular lifestyle for long, although you may want to limit your normal activity. To best aid in the recovery process, makeup should only be applied after the skin is completely healed.

Results:

When your skin has completely finished peeling, you will immediately notice the dramatic results of your newly improved complexion. Your skin’s appearance will continue to improve for the next 4 to 6 weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier, and more youthful looking.

Sclerotherapy - Leg Vein Treatment

Millions of women are bothered by spider veins—those small yet unsightly, clusters of red, blue or purple veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. In fact, it is estimated that at least half of the adult female population is plagued with this common cosmetic problem. Dr. Conkright and his team of professionals have treated spider veins with Sclerotherapy for 17 years. In this rather simple procedure, veins are injected with sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view. If you are considering Sclerotherapy to improve the appearance of your legs, contact our office.

Procedure:

A typical Sclerotherapy session begins with you changing into shorts and having your legs photographed for your medical records. You will be asked to lie down on the examination table and the skin over your spider veins will be cleansed. Using one hand to stretch the skin, Dr. Conkright’s professional staff will begin injecting the sclerosing agent into the affected veins. Bright, indirect light and magnification help ensure that the process is completed with maximum precision. As the procedure continues, you will feel small needle sticks and possibly a small burning sensation. However, the needle used is so thin and the sclerosing solution is so mild that pain is usually minimal.

Procedure length:

  • 30 to 45 minutes

Risks/Side-Effects:

Serious medical complications from Sclerotherapy are extremely rare when the procedure is performed by a qualified professional. However, they may occur. Risks include the formation of blood clots in the veins, severe inflammation, and adverse allergic reactions to the sclerosing solution and skin injury that could leave a small but permanent scar. A common cosmetic complication is pigmentation irregularity—brownish splotches on the affected skin that may take months to a year to fade. Another problem that can occur is “telangiectatic matting”; in which fine reddish blood vessels appear around the treated area, requiring further injections. You can reduce the risks associated by choosing a qualified professional who is well versed in the area of Sclerotherapy.

Results:

Most patients are pleased with the difference Sclerotherapy makes. The skin of your legs will appear younger, clearer and more healthy-looking. If you’ve been wearing long skirts or pants to hide your spider veins, you’ll now be able to broaden your fashion horizons. Often, patients are surprised at the dramatic difference in appearance between a treated leg and an untreated leg.
