Worried about your job? Get a facelift

Despite a still shaky economy, the number of men getting plastic surgery is on the rise, according to numbers released Monday by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

One factor that might be fueling the growth: Older men trying to hold onto their jobs.

"I hear it from my patients, men in their 50s ... they are confessing to me they need it to stay competitive in the workplace," said Dr. Phil Haeck, a Seattle plastic surgeon and president of the group that released the study. "In a recession economy, the pressure is on doubly to look younger."

Haeck said the trend he has observed is reflected in the statistics released by his organization: The number of men getting facelifts surged 14 percent in 2010 compared with 2009, Botox usage increased 9 percent and liposuction rose 7 percent.

The increasing number of plastic surgeries could serve as an economic bellwether. More than 5 million reconstructive plastic surgery procedures were performed last year, up 2 percent. The increase mirrors the rise in consumer confidence throughout most of 2010.

"There's some pent-up demand for cosmetic surgical procedures," Haeck said. "People have waited a couple of years or more to have procedures, until their finances were at least somewhat back in order."

The top cosmetic surgical procedures conducted on men in 2010:

  1. Nose reshaping: 64,000
  2. Eyelid Surgery: 31,000
  3. Liposuction:  24,000
  4. Breast reduction: 18,000
  5. Hair transplantation: 13,000

The top minimally invasive cosmetic procedures for men:

  1. Botox: 337,000
  2. Laser hair removal: 165,000
  3. Microdermabrasion: 158,000
  4. Chemical peel: 90,000
  5. Soft-tissue fillers: 78,000

Spring 2011 Fashion Trends

Warmer weather is upon us, those cold winter days are gone, BRING ON THE NEW SPRING FASHIONS!!!! Every  season trends evolve, and every season new trends merge. Spring 2011 is no different, however, this seasons take on many wardrobe staples will be different.

Spring fashion begins with the ever comfortable maxi dress, it goes SHEER. Makes sure you have the proper undergarments ladies, and make this work for you.   Lace, Crochet, and macrame have evolved as well. No, they are not new, but they influence Spring 2011 with a more classic side, high quality antique-style fabrics make this trend key.  Less of the allover look.  Stretch lace with a more unique take makes it work. Bell bottoms and wide leg pants have returned. I know, who would have guessed? With skinny jeans and pants now so common they no longer make a statement it was inevitable that this style would comeback.  Before you try to rock this style, experiment with different fits and flares. We don't want you to look like Gumby walking around.

For every trend that exists an opposite must appear. So by allowing the previously mentions flares back into our wardrobe, so to does it allow for the opposite style, in the form of Capri Pants.  Capri pants that sit just above the ankles with a slight crop and come in with the skinny fit are one of the hottest cuts of the year.  The relaxed comfort fit that sits just below the mid-calf are also hot. the slim cut capri pants that sit just above the ankle with a few rolls can also be a great item to integrate into your daily look.

Tail Hems? They have been seen as an alternative to the summer mini skirt or maxi dress for sometime now.  There are numerous ways this trend is being worn.  A simple hem cut at an angle,  the more traditional petal hem(where the fabric overlaps in the front like petals of a flower), a hem that's cut from very short to very long-i.e mini to maxi,  and a hem that falls into large drapes or pleats at the back.  Any of these different styles is suited to springs 2011 trends.

Last, but certainly not least STRIPES. Stripes are the pattern of the spring season. But these are not your average stripes. Designers have given us many options this season. Which one best suits you?  Seaside stripes, inspired by nautical flags and designs are ready for a day by the sea.  Retrograde stripes in bright spring colors show a tinge of '70s spirit.  The Skinny, an allover skinny stripe pattern is a little bit mod, a little bit pirate. Sportif stripes, these strong geometric stripes are sportswear at its best.  Easy tees, for fans of the striped tee, update with a pop of yellow this season.  The Strait Up stripe.  Do vertical stripes really make you look taller?  You'll have plenty of chances to test the theory come spring.

No matter what trend you decide to sport this season, remember, NEVER try to combine too many trends into the same outfit.  Keep it simple, spring and summer allow for many opportunities to show off just how chic your really are.
